INTROVERT/EXTROVERT
2019 Winter Stations Competition
Team: Dillon Pranger + Matthew Celmer
Introvert / Extrovert offers two unique experiences to engage with the space and objects that surround us.
The Introvert suppresses multiple senses through one individual visitor inhabiting the structure at a time and surveying the context through a position of privacy. The Introvert masks all sounds through acoustic paneling applied to the interior of the structure, offers no sensorial effect of the wind through its enclosure, and does not heighten one’s sense of taste or smell, thus leaving the visitor to rely of sight out into the environment through prescribed windows located within the structure. Each window offers a unique perspective of the surrounding context.
The Extrovert activates the senses and encourages multiple individuals to interact with it simultaneously. Through each element being oriented in a unique direction, each member of The Extrovert offers varying acoustics depending on wind strength and orientation. In addition to sound, The Extrovert’s members offer a variety of views out into the surrounding context, but also potential views of other participants (and animals) that are inhabiting the space.
