The Sauna is a small outdoor oasis located in upstate New York. The project is situated on a hillside along the western edge of Cayuga Lake with a floor to ceiling glass pivot door offering unobstructed views of the lake while inside the sauna. Constructed using board-form concrete, the sauna takes advantage of both the natural hillside and concrete as thermal mass while the sauna is active. A green roof allows local plants and foliage to grow on top of the sauna. As the project ages and the plantings mature, the sauna will ultimately succumb to its environment and blend into the landscape it is sited within.
